The Black AIDS Institute (the Institute) will lead a media delegation to the XVIII International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2010) in Vienna, Austria from July 18 -23, 2010. The Institute has taken a media delegation to each of the past six International AIDS Conferences. This year’s delegation includes 13 black journalists representing media outlets such as The New York Times, Essence, Glamour, Fox News, the National Newspaper Publishers Association, AOL Black Voices and more. This seasoned group of journalists is dedicated to educate, inform, and produce aggressive, thorough coverage of HIV/AIDS issues in the Black community. Our media delegation has a combined reach of 28 million readers across all platforms.

The Institute will begin with a Black Media Roundtable meeting where delegates will learn more about the HIV/AIDS epidemic from some of the world's leading science, treatment and policy experts. The meeting will also include a brief session on tips and information crucial to covering the conference effectively. The roundtable will cover the important stories of 2009 and 2010, such as health care reform and look forward to the most important stories to come in 2011 including the 30th Anniversary of HIV/AIDS.

Delegates will attend sessions, seminars, workshops, and press conferences, and report, blog, and update social media each day. The Institute's Black AIDS Weekly will be the major Black American presence at the conference, allowing us to communicate directly and disseminate information to millions of African Americans. For many African Americans, the content provided by our journalist delegation will be their only vehicle for information directly from the International AIDS Conference.
