About National HIV Testing Day
Observed across the United States on June 27, National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) is a reminder to know your HIV status.
After you complete your HIV test, it is also an opportunity to talk about routine HIV prevention like a daily pill called PrEP that stops HIV by over 90%. If you receive an HIV-positive diagnosis, you do not have to worry because daily antiretroviral treatment can help you live healthily and stop you from passing on HIV.
Let’s use NHTD to begin conversations and care about HIV prevention and treatment so we can end the epidemic in Black communities. If you are in Los Angeles, come to the Black AIDS Institute’s “A Clinic For Us.” Or, you can find HIV tests near you via the HIV.gov Locator.

HIV Prevention: Black Women’s PrEP Toolkit
Even today, many Black Americans, especially Black women (cisgender and transgender) are not aware of this lifesaving HIV prevention. Recognizing this, the Black AIDS Institute created the “Black Women and PrEP Toolkit.” This toolkit has the latest information about PrEP, updated resources, materials that can be co-branded, and more. Learn about our Black Women and PrEP Toolkit here.
National HIV Testing Day on June 27 is an important reminder that Black women need to be informed and educated about protecting themselves from HIV. Getting an HIV test is the only way to begin that journey. If you have recently received an HIV-negative test, it is a great time to learn about PrEP – or pre-exposure prophylaxis. PrEP is a daily pill that is proven to prevent HIV by more than 90%.
We provide training and capacity building to organizations and health departments to educate their communities about PrEP in a culturally affirming way. We have partnered with several state health departments to create customized training sessions and materials to promote PrEP. Learn about our Training and Capacity Building program here.
