Overview

The devastating effects of HIV upon historically marginalized populations and their exclusion from clinical trial development have led to increasing controversies around HIV prevention treatment. In 2020, the Black AIDS Institute launched “We The People: A Black Strategy to End HIV,” which serves as the cornerstone of our programs, community engagement, and policy efforts.

Led by the Black AIDS Institute, the “We The People Research Cohort” (The Cohort) is an educational partnership with the HIV Vaccine Trials Network and Treatment Action Group. The Cohort’s mission is to equip underrepresented populations with knowledge on HIV biomedical prevention science and to build the capacity of the next generation of HIV research advocates.

The Cohort has collaboratively developed the HIV Prevention Research Advocate Certification Program to address the lack of minority group representation within research protocol development and participation and meet the need for the development of HIV advocacy training centering the needs of Black and Brown people.
